Judd Trump got revenge on John Higgins as the 23-year-old
cruised to a 4-0 win over the Scot in the final of the Bulgarian Open. It was
the second consecutive time that the two had met in the final of a PTC after Higgins
had won UKPTC4 over Trump four days beforehand on Wednesday evening. And Trump
has also been defeated by The Wizard of Wishaw in two major ranking event
finals; this season’s Shanghai Masters and the 2011 World Championship final.
But the Bristolian finally secured a victory over his illusive opponent and
looked at ease during the whole match.
Trump secured the first two frames and was on course to make
his first professional 147 Maximum Break in the third but missed the 12th
red. A break of 63 in frame four was enough to secure the first professional
tournament to be held in Bulgaria along with a cheque for £10,000.
Trump had earlier overcome Mark Davis by four frames to two in
the semi-finals. Davis had performed well during the competition after being buoyed
by the news had had secured a place in both the UK Championship and The Masters
due to Stephen Lee’s suspension but was beaten 4-2 by the in-form Trump. Davis
had beaten Tom Ford 4-2 in the Quarter Finals. Ford had recorded a 147 break
earlier on in the competition during his last 32 match against Matthew Stevens.
Trump had booked his place in the semis following a 4-0 whitewashing of Andrew
Higginson.
Higgins’ place in the final had been secured following a
hard-fought victory over Neil Robertson, who he defeated 4-2. He had earlier
whitewashed Rory McLeod 4-0 in the Quarter-Finals whilst Robertson had defeated
Ben Woollaston 4-2.
