Mark Selby shows his delight after potting match ball to secure a 6-4 win over Neil Robertson after previously being 4-0 down. |
Mark Selby produced an incredible comeback to win his quarter-final
match against Neil Robertson, by six frames to four. However The Jester from Leicester
was 4-0 behind at the interval after Robertson had dominated the early stages
of the match. But the world number two turned things around after the break and
won an astonishing six frames on the bounce to win the match in impressive
style.
He will face Mark Davis in Saturday’s semi-final after the
40-year-old defeated Matthew Stevens 6-4 to reach his third semi-final of the
season. It was the Welshman though that took the early initiative winning the
first two frames although the lead was pegged back as Davis won the next two
before the interval. The Hastings man went onto win another two after the
interval to go 4-2 up but Stevens fought back this time to draw level at 4-4. A
break of 70 saw Davis take frame nine before he wrapped up the match by taking
frame 10.
Earlier in the day, Shaun Murphy finally ended Luca Brecel’s
excellent run in the UK Championship, but it took him until the penultimate
ball in the deciding frame to secure the win. Brecel, who had already defeated Ricky
Walden and mark King won the opening frame but Murphy went 2-1 up by winning
the next two, including a break of 122 in the latter. The young Belgian secured
frame four to go into the interval at 2-2 and the game continued just as tight
with the scores level at 4-4 after frame eight. Brecel went 5-4 up and within a
frame of the last four and had the chance to wrap up the game at 6-4 but
rattled the final pink in the jaws allowing Murphy to force the equaliser.
Murphy had the early chance in the final frame but only made a break of 42
which allowed Brecel to battle back. He appeared to on course to record another
incredible victory but as happened the previous frame, he rattled the pink in
the jaws, allowing Murphy the simplest of pinks in the middle pocket to secure
the win.
Ali Carter will be his opponent in tomorrow’s semi-final
after he defeated Stuart Bingham 6-4 in an all-Essex clash. Bingham won the
opener but Carter held the advantage at the interval after winning three in a
row, including a 134 century break. The pair traded blows in the next two frames
but Bingham took frames seven and eight to draw level at 4-4. However Carter
took frames nine and ten to secure the win.
