Judd Trump won his second Championship League title thanks to a 3-1 win over defending champion Martin Gould in the final of the Winner’s Group on Thursday evening.

He had first won the tournament in 2009 when he was just 19 and added the £10,000 winner’s prize to the £20,000 he’d won previously in this year’s tournament, netting just over a tidy £30,000 for this year’s event.

Trump started the final the way he meant to go on, with a break of 119 and subsequently added a second after a couple of table visits in frame two. Gould was not ready to throw the towel in and knocked in a superb break of 59 to win the frame by a single point after trailing by 58 when he was first let in. But Trump showed his class and hit a 109, which will also secure his place at the Champion of Champions at the Ricoh Arena in November,

Previously, Trump had seen off a spirited comeback from Shaun Murphy, who had forced a decider from 2-0 down whilst in the other semi Gouldwhitewashed Stephen Maguire 3-0 with a top break of 97.

Ricky Walden, Ryan Day and 2008 Championship League winner Joe Perry were the players unable to make it through to the play-offs.
