Neil Robertson claimed Event 2 of the European Players Tour
Championship in the Polish city of Gdynia with a 4-3 victory over Jamie
Burnett. It seemed that Robertson would cruise to victory, taking the first
three frames with a top break of 118 but the Scotsman battled back well,
forcing a deciding frame. It was certainly a tense frame and lasted over 50
minutes, the pink being pushed over the left corner pocket not making things
easy. The pink was eventually knocked in although the table was not in a great
state for break building, allowing both players chance to put non-substantial
breaks together. However, it was the Aussie who knocked in the meaningful final
break of the match to secure the title.
Robertson had earlier recorded a decent 4-2 victory over
Stephen Maguire in the semi-finals to book his spot in the final. Burnett
meanwhile whitewashed Michael Holt 4-0 to progress although Holt had completed
a surprise 4-2 victory over Ding Junhui in the Quarter Finals. Burnett squeezed
through his quarter final match with a deciding frame winner over Norweigan
player Kurt Maflin, who will have been pleased to have made the last eight of
the event. Likewise Tian Pengfei, who although was whitewashed by Robertson in
the quarters, had beaten Stuart Bingham in the last 16. Veteran Jimmy White
will also have been delighted to make the Quarter finals following wins over
Dave Harold and Liang Wembo however his run was brought to an end by Stephen
Maguire, who ran out 4-1 winner.
