Ronnie O'Sullivan booked his place in the Quarter-Finals with a 5-1 thrashing of Mark Williams (not my picture) |
Ronnie O’Sullivan was much improved in the second round of
the China Open as he defeated Mark Williams 5-1. Ronnie had only just squeezed
past Marcus Campbell in his first round match yesterday but a convincing
performance over the Welshman paved the way for progress to the Quarter-Finals.
Meanwhile Judd Trump also tasted victory as he knocked out Stuart Bingham.
Trump won the first two frames but Bingham pegged him back at the interval to
go in level and won the fifth to go 3-2 up. However, Judd excelled for the
remainder of the match, winning the next three frames to secure the game.
Stephen Lee’s pursuit of back to back tournament wins
continues as he knocked out Graeme Dott 5-3. A closely fought match between Ricky
Walden and Stephen Maguire went to a decider with Maguire scraping through to
the final.
Mark Selby was supposed to be playing Ding Junhui in the
evening session but was forced to withdraw due to a strain in his neck, so Ding
receives a bye to the Quarters. Neil Robertson is another man who will be
playing in the final eight as he defeated veteran Stephen Hendry. Breaks of 95,
74, 68 and 86 helped his way to a 5-3 victory. Lu Ning’s fantastic run in the
tournament came to an end after being beaten 5-1 by Ali Carter. Finally, Peter
Ebdon secured a rare place in the last eight after defeating John Higgins in a
deciding frame.
The Quarters gets underway tomorrow with two mouth-watering
ties in afternoon session starting at 7:30amBST on Eurosport and Eurosport 2.
Judd Trump will be taking on Stephen Lee whilst Stephen Maguire faces Ronnie O’Sullivan.
Then in the evening, 12:30pmBST Ding Junhui plays Ali Carter and Neil Robertson
is up against Ali Carter.
