World Championship Day 7

Neil Robertson is the first man through to the semi-finals of the World Championships as he overcame surprise package David Gilbert by 13 frames to 9. The Masters champion led 10-6 after the second session and extended his lead by winning the first frame of the session but Gilbert would not back down and took three of the next four with breaks of 69, 121 and 67 but The Aussie got the crucial thirteenth frame he needed to make it through to the last eight.

John Higgins and Stephen Hendry got their mouth-watering all-Scottish affair underway on Friday morning. It was a tetchy start to the match with the first four frames being shared but Hendry gained the upper hand and secured a 5-3 lead at the end of the session. Things got steadily worse for the defending champion as a comedy of errors saw 43-year-old Hendry go 8-3 up before Higgins took the last frame before the interval. However Hendry kept his foot on the accelerator and won the next four to give himself an unassailable 12-4 lead ahead of the final session on Saturday afternoon.

Already 5-3 ahead, Stephen Maguire extended his advantage over Joe Perry in their second round match to 11-5 and requires only two more frames to make it through. Maguire took five of the first six frames to go 10-4 up and despite Perry knocking in a 103 in the fifteenth frame, Maguire won the last frame of the session to give himself a healthy lead. Meanwhile Ryan Day built up a fantastic 6-2 lead over Cao Yupeng with their match concluding on Saturday evening.
