World Championship Day 10

Ali Carter recorded a sensational comeback to beat Judd Trump
after trailing 12-9
Ali Carter booked his place in the Quarter Finals of the World Championship after a dramatic final frame decider against Judd Trump. Trump had led 9-7 after the second session and the pair shared the first four frames of the day to leave Trump in a commanding position in the match. His position was made even stronger when he won the 21st frame to go 12-9 up needing only one more frame to win but The Captain’s never say die attitude saw his win three frames on the bounce to force a 25th and final frame. Trump was in the balls early on but missed a simple shot with the rest allowing Carter to all but seal the frame with The Bristolian requiring four snookers to win. Last year’s finalist carried on and incredibly won 12 points back from three snookers but left a red on whilst trying to get a fourth and Carter potted to seal the fantastic victory.

Meanwhile Jamie Jones’ unbelievable run on his crucible debut as he took secured a place in the last 8 after defeating Andrew Higginson 13-10. His 10-6 lead came under pressure early on as The Widnes Warrior won all four frames before the interval to tie the scores at 10-10. However the break came at the right time for Neath’s Jones and he won the following two to go one frame from winning, including a sensational 135 break. His momentum continued and comfortably won the next frame to set up a tie with Ali Carter in the next round.

After being level at 8-8 Matthew Stevens battled past Barry Hawkins during the afternoon session to win 13-10. Stevens won the first two frames but The Hawk hit back to go in 10-10 at the interval. The Welshman then won the next two and despite his Dartford opponent taking the 23rd frame, Stevens secured the game by winning the following frame. Ronnie O’Sullivan finished the job over Mark Williams to put him in the Quarters by a 13-6 scoreline. Ronnie won the first frame of the day to go 12-5 up but The Welsh Potting Machine won the next to secure his 6th frame of the match and despite O’Sullivan conceding 30 penalty points from a snooker in the 19th frame, he cleared up with a break of 66 to win the match.
