Stuart Bingham continues his solid run in the competition with a 4-1 win over Jin Long |
The third day of APTC1 continued to dish out a few surprises
as a number of professional players were knocked out of the competition by
Chinese amateurs. Dominic Dale suffered defeat in the first round with a 4-3
defeat against Zhu Yinghui whilst Alfie Burden was also beaten by the same
scoreline, against Lu Zhenwei. However, other professionals Stephen Lee, Marco
Fu, Mark Davis, Michael White and Ben Woolaston all avoided defeats to secure
their places in the evening’s second round.
The second round commenced during the afternoon and Mark Williams
managed to just squeeze past Cai Jianzhong by four frames to three. Cai knocked
in a 127 to win the first frame and led 3-2 at one point but The Welsh Potting
Machine avoided embarrassment by winning the final two games. Stuart Bingham
also progressed with a solid 4-1 victory over Jin Long but Yu Delu was defeated
4-1 by Zhou Xintong and Marco Fu lost to Tuan Pengfei by the same scoreline.
Meanwhile, in the evening, there were 4-0 wins for Ding
Junhui, Robert Milkins, Stephen Lee and Ben Woollaston over Chinese amateur
players whilst it was slightly closer wins for Tom Ford and Michael White, who
needed deciders to beat their Chinese opponents. However, there was a shock
result as Mark Davis was defeated in a decider against Mei Xiwen.
There are still five Chinese amateurs remaining in the
competition ahead of the last 16 which begins tomorrow, whilst there are a
further four players on the tour of Chinese origin, meaning a winner from China
remains fairly likely.
