World Championship Final

Ronnie wins his fourth World Championship after a 18-11 win
over Ali Carter
Ronnie O’Sullivan took his fourth World Title as he fended off the challenge of fellow Essex man Ali Carter to win the 2012 championship. The last time The Rocket took the title, in 2008, Carter was once again his opponent, with a final scoreline if 18-8. This encounter was a more close affair although Ronnie looked comfortable for most of the match, eventually winning 18-11.

That said, the opening stages were very tense, with the first four frames being shared but by the end of the opening session, Ronnie had secured a 5-3 advantage. The second session was continued in similar fashion, with O’Sullivan again gaining a two-frame advantage by the end of the session, to go 10-6 up.

Carter reduced his arrears by winning frame 17 but O’Sullivan stormed the next four frames and it appeared he may run away with the match but Ali halted the slide and managed to win the last three frames to stop the halt. However, Ronnie won the last frame of the afternoon session and took three of the four in the evening session to reach the all-important 18 frames and secure the world title.

A delighted O’Sullivan celebrated the win with his son, Ronnie Junior, but warned that he would be spending several months away from the table at the start of next season to spend time with his family.
