Trump secured the first two frames and was on course to make
his first professional 147 Maximum Break in the third but missed the 12th
red. A break of 63 in frame four was enough to secure the first professional
tournament to be held in Bulgaria along with a cheque for £10,000.
Trump had earlier overcome Mark Davis by four frames to two in
the semi-finals. Davis had performed well during the competition after being buoyed
by the news had had secured a place in both the UK Championship and The Masters
due to Stephen Lee’s suspension but was beaten 4-2 by the in-form Trump. Davis
had beaten Tom Ford 4-2 in the Quarter Finals. Ford had recorded a 147 break
earlier on in the competition during his last 32 match against Matthew Stevens.
Trump had booked his place in the semis following a 4-0 whitewashing of Andrew
Higginson.
Higgins’ place in the final had been secured following a
hard-fought victory over Neil Robertson, who he defeated 4-2. He had earlier
whitewashed Rory McLeod 4-0 in the Quarter-Finals whilst Robertson had defeated
Ben Woollaston 4-2.
