Stuart Bingham is through to the Quarter-Finals with a 6-4 win over Stephen Maguire. |
Stuart Bingham’s superb run of form continued on Tuesday after
he defeated 2004 UK Champion Stephen Maguire 6-4. The Essexman won the first
two frames but Maguire won the next two to go in at the interval level. Bingham
won frame five to go 3-2 up but Maguire went ahead for the first time in the
match by winning the next two frames. However Bingham took frame eight and nine
with a break of 120 and completed the hat-trick by winning frame ten to seal
the win.
He will play Ali Carter who ended Mark Joyce’s run in the
afternoon session with a 6-2 win over the Walsall-man. Carter was 4-0 up at the
interval although Joyce, who beat Judd Trump on Sunday, won the next two to
close the gap to 4-2. However Carter won the next two to secure a comfortable
victory.
The other afternoon match saw Matthew Stevens record a 6-4
victory over Marco Fu. Stevens was 3-1 up at the interval and stretched the
advantage to 4-1 as Fu really struggled to get going in the match. However the
Hong Kong man managed to win the next three to draw level at 4-4. However a 74
break put Stevens back in front and he ensured victory by taking frame 10.
Shaun Murphy won the days other last 16 game with a
comfortable 6-2 victory over Graeme Dott. Murphy stormed to a 3-0 lead although
Dott pulled a frame back before the interval. A 130 clearance in frame five saw
Murphy stretch his lead to 4-1 but Dott made it 4-2 by taking the sixth.
However Sale’s Murphy won the next two to claim victory.
