Mark Selby is into the UK Championship final following a 9-4 win over Mark Davis |
Mark Selby secured the second spot in Sunday’s UK
Championship final after defeating Mark Davis 9-4 in a one-sided semi-final. He
will face Shaun Murphy in the final at The Barbican tomorrow and also moves
back up to world number one, replacing Judd Trump who’s time at the top of the
tree was short lived.
Davis struggled in the early stages of the match, finding
himself 3-0 down and on the end of a 121 century break but the Sussexman was
able to pull a frame back before the interval. But Selby extended his lead by
winning frames five and six, the latter with a break of 81 to go 5-1 up. Davis
knocked in an 80 break in the next to close the gap to three but Selby finished
the session on top by taking the eighth to hold a commanding 6-2 lead going
into the evening session.
And the Leicester man extended the gap to five by taking the
first frame of the second session although Davis hit back to win the tenth. A
76 break from Selby saw him go within a frame of the win but Davis ensured the
interval by taking frame 12. This was only prolonging the inevitable as Selby
secured the match by taking frame 13.
