Stuart Binghman was the first man to book his place in the
2013 Bet Victor Welsh Open final after defeating defending champion Ding Junhui
in a final frame decider. Ball-run Bingham won the first two frames, the second
compiling a break of 64 to come back from 58-0 down. Ding pulled one back by
winning the third with a break of 56 but a 74 break saw Bingham take a 3-1
advantage into the interval.
A run of 72 from Ding after the break closed the scores but
Bingham won the sixth to maintain his two-frame advantage. This was quickly
eroded away as Ding won three on the bounce including runs of 67 and 70 to go
ahead for the first time in the match. However, Bingham managed to stop the rot
and knocked in a 93 to force a decider which he calmly knocked in a 108 break
to secure the win.
He’ll face Stephen Maguire in tomorrow’s final after he
defeated Judd Trump 6-4. Trump won the opening two frames but his play rapidly
deteriorated after that point. Maguire knocked in breaks of 87 and 59 to go
into the interval level.
The Scot then won another three on the bounce to go within a
frame of victory with runs of 66, 73 and 61. However, Trump went from playing
truly awful to playing excellently and made it back to 5-4 with breaks of 54
and 86. The Bristolian had a chance in the next to force a decider but ran
aground on 50, allowing Maguire to seal the victory.
