Neil Robertson overcame Ali Carter 6-2 in the first of Saturday’s semi-finals to book a place in Sunday’s China Open semi-final. The defending champion got off to a terrific start with breaks of 69, 79 and 70 putting him 4-0 up at the interval.

Carter managed to close to 4-2 after taking a dramatic fifth frame on the final black and then the sixth with a 106 but it was curtains for the captain as Robbo took the next two with a 67 in the seventh before taking the eight on the colours to seal victory.

He’s joined by Ding Junhui in the final after he ended Mike Dunn’s impressive run in the tournament, whitewashing him 6-0. Dunn, who had beaten Mark Selby in his best ever result on Friday, played a good tactical game but his scoring was not up to Ding’s who knocked in top breaks of 58 and 54 for the win and secure his sixth ranking event final spot of the season.
