Championship League Winner's group - Day 1

Shaun Murphy sits in 4th place in the winner's group but will
he be able to hold onto his place in the final play-off position

Group 7 winner Ding Junhui is sitting pretty at the top of the table in the winners group after only losing one game on the opening day. The Chinese player has also recorded the highest break of the group with a 142 recorded in his 3-0 win over Barry Hawkins.  Just behind him, Judd Trump, who has performed even better and has won all three of his matches so far. After that, it’s fairly tight for the remaining two play-off places with Mark Allen and Shaun Murphy with two points to their names whilst Mark Davis is fifth but only has two more games tomorrow that he’ll need to win to stand any chance of qualifying for the play-offs. Barry Hawkins has a little bit more room to breathe as he is in the same position but still has three matches tomorrow.

Perhaps the biggest surprise is how Group 3 winner Neil Robertson has struggled, losing all three of his matches. He was defeated 3-0 by Ding whilst Davis and Trump both beat him 3-1. He was unlucky in his match against Murphy after losing in a final frame decider but is highly unlikely to qualify for the play-offs after his four defeats.

The group stage continues tomorrow morning from 11am on liveworldsnooker.tv and various betting websites. The semis and final will be played from 6pm and the ultimate winner will be granted a place in next season’s Premier League.
