Ding Junhui won Group 7 of Championship League snooker with a win over table-topper Tom Ford in the final. |
Ding Junhui secured the last place in the winners group of
Championship Snooker as he whitewashed Tom Ford, who had only lost one match
previous to the final over the two days. A break of 88 in the first frame put
him 1-0 up and he stretched it to 2-0 after a close second frame. Another big
break of 127 in the final frame ensured the Chinese player a further two days
play at Crondon Park. Ding had also beaten Scot Marcus Campbell in the semis
3-0 whilst Ford won his closely-matched semi-final with a 3-2 win over Ryan Day.
Ford had topped the Group 7 league after winning five of his
six matches whilst a much improved Ding won all three of his games today to safeguard
his place as runner-up following a poor opening day. Campbell ended the group
in third and secured the £500 high break prize for the group with his 139
recorded against Ford in the group phase. The other players in the group, Peter
Ebdon, Joe Perry and Dominic Dale all won two of their six games and finished 5th,
6th and 7th respectively.
The winner’s group begins tomorrow with Ding joining Neil
Robertson, Judd Trump, Shaun Murphy, Mark Allen, Mark Davis and Barry Hawkins who
will all be aiming in the top four for a chance of winning the group and
securing a place in next year’s Premier League.
