Wuxi Classic day 4

Robert Milkins performed remarkably, knocking out the world
number 2, Judd Trump by 5 frames to 3.
Robert Milkins shocked Judd Trump to reach the quarter finals of the Wuxi Classic after a fantastic comeback from the world number 36. Trump, who comprehensively defeated Dominic dale yesterday, led 3-1 at the interval but Milkins came out all guns blazing winning four on the bounce to seal progress to the last eight. In the battle between the Marks, Williams and Allen, it was the Welshman who came out on top with Williams claiming a 5-2 victory in the afternoon session. Allen had taken the first two frames of the match but it was 2-2 at the interval. The next two frames were shared but Williams finished strongly, taking the next two frames he needed for victory.

Ken Doherty gave Stuart Bingham a shock in their last 16 match with the Irishman looking like he was about to progress after leading 4-3 with two frames to go. However the Essex-man recorded a 78 to win frame eight and took the deciding frame, which was a cagey 38 minute affair. Marcus Campbell will play Bingham in the Quarters after he won the other afternoon match with a 5-2 victory against Fergal O’Brien.

Mark Selby cruised through his last 16 match against Jamie Cope with a 5-0 win over Jamie Cope although in fairness, the whitewash score flattered the world number 1. Cope made several good contributions but lost both the second and third frames on the final black and will be disappointed to not get at least one frame on the scoreboard. Meanwhile, an in-form Rod Lawler came close to add another victim to his growing list of defeated players as he was shaded out by Graeme Dott after a deciding frame. The Scot was 3-1 ahead at the interval but an inspired Lawler won three on the bounce to go 4-3 up. However Dott was able to stop the rot and won the eighth before putting in a solid break in the ninth frame to secure victory.

Mark Davis also secured a quarter final spot at the Wuxi Classic with a 5-3 victory over Scotland’s Jamie Burnett. Finally, the last match to finish in the Wuxi Classic was an epic between Ricky Walden and Joe Perry, which actually finished at almost 1am local time. Few would have predicted that the game would last almost five hours as Walden raced to a seemingly unassailable 4-0 lead and was 60 points up in the fifth frame. But the Chester-born player missed frame ball and Perry got the bit between his teeth and somehow won that frame and three more on the bounce to take the match to a decider. Perry looked as though he was about to close out the final scrappy frame but missed the black allowing Walden to spare his blushes and book a quarter-final place against Milkins.
