The match was not one for the purists with many scrappy
frames in the first session although there was a moment of magic in frame six
when Bingham beat his own tournament high break of 141 with a spectacular 147
maximum break. However, after the first five frames, Bingham was already 5-0
down with Walden coming out on top in the early scrappy frames. The world
number 16 continued his strong start to the match by winning the final two
frames of the afternoon sessions to hold a commanding 7-1 lead going into the
evening session.
It looked as though the match would soon be over with Walden
winning a further two frames to put him 9-1 up, needing just one more frame but
frame eleven saw Bingham begin to mount a mini-revival. The recent APTC1 champion
took the next three frames, which included breaks of 100 and 102 but it was
only prolonging the inevitable as Walden saw out the match by winning the
fourteenth frame with a break of 74.
