Stuart Bingham won his second Asian Players’ Tour
Championship event of the season after beating Chinese amateur Li Hang in the
third and final tournament of the series. A plucky Li took APTC1 winner Bingham
to a final frame decider after leading 3-1 and despite not earning an automatic
place in the PTC Finals after losing the final, should still qualify on his
position in the APTC order of merit. The Basildon-based player won frame one
but Li hit back with three in a row to go within a frame of a surprise win. But
Bingham fought back, first taking frame five then winning a close sixth frame
before seeing his way through the decider to secure the £10,000 prize and his
second title of the season.
He had earlier beaten Tom Ford 4-3 in the semi-finals in
Zhengzhou whilst Li had caused a big upset, beating world number 28 Robert
Milkins 4-1. Li had beaten another tour player and compatriot Zhang Anda 4-2 in
the Quarter-Finals whilst Milkins had whitewashed Cao Yupeng. Bingham had
beaten 1997 World Champion Ken Doherty 4-1 in his quarter whilst in the other
last eight match, Ford had beaten Chinese amateur Hu Hao.
