Judd Trump secured his third ranking event title with a 10-8 victory over Neil Robertson |
Judd Trump secured the International Championship title with a
10-8 victory over Neil Robertson in an exciting final in Chengdu. The match
swung from side to side throughout with both players hitting form at different
times but crucially for Trump, he hit form in the final few frames.
The Bristolian started well winning the first two frames but
Robertson soon hit back winning four on the bounce to go 4-2 up. Trump won the
seventh to close the gap however it seemed Robertson would take a closely-contested
eighth frame after Trump had missed on the colours. The Australian had potted
blue and pink but still needed black which he missed, allowing Trump to square
the scores at 4-4. Robertson won the final frame of the session though to hold
a slender advantage going into the evening session.
Trump started the better in the second session, winning the
first two frames to go 6-5 up but in similar circumstances to the opening
session, Robertson won the next two to go back in front at the interval. The
2010 World Champion took a big step towards the finish line by taking frame 14
with a break of 88 after Trump had failed to snooker behind the yellow. His opponent
was not ready to give up though and Judd mounted a charge by winning both
frames 15 and 16 to level at 8-8. A terrific 119 put him 9-8 up and the
24-year-old held his nerve in frame 18 with two solid breaks to secure the
title as well as £125,000 in prize money.
