
He defeated Judd Trump after a final frame decider in the
group final, after originally leading 2-0. He took a closely fought first frame
before hitting an 80 break in frame two but Trump hit back to take the third. A
break of 89 set up a deciding frame in which trump got the first look in but he
ran aground on 55, allowing Ding to knock in a 64 to win the match.
Ding had defeated an inform Stephen Maguire in the semis 3-1
after the Scot had topped the group with five wins out of six. Trump defeated recent
Masters Champion Mark Selby by the same scoreline with the Jester from
Leicester returning to the baize less than twelve hours after winning at
Alexandra Palace.
Masters runner-up Neil Robertson also entered the fray on
Monday but he was unsuccessful again, after being eliminated from the group
after finishing sixth. As was Mark Williams who finished bottom of the group
with two wins. Martin Gould, who finished fifth, will join Trump, Maguire and
Selby in Group Four alongside Barry Hawkins, Mark Allen and Ricky Walden.
