Masters Day 8

Mark Selby scooped his fourth Masters title with a 10-6 win
over defending champion Neil Robertson
Mark Selby put in an excellent performance to deny Neil Robertson a consecutive Masters title after a 10-6 win at Alexandra Palace on Sunday night. The Leicester-man has been in excellent form of late, winning the UK Championship back in December and also won the Munich Open PTC event two weeks ago.

Selby started the brighter in the match despite his semi-final against Graeme Dott finishing after 12am on Sunday morning. After taking the first frame, he knocked in breaks of 73 and 102 to take the next two although Robertson did pull one back before the interval with a 78 break.

Another impressive break, an 84 this time, gave Selby the next frame and he also won the sixth to go 5-1 up. Robbo managed to win the next two though with breaks of 63 and 72 to ensure the game remained alive heading into the evening session.

But Selby won the opener in the concluding session with a run of 67 to go 6-3 ahead and also won the next two to stretch his lead to 8-3. Robertson was not ready to throw in the towel though and knocked in a 74 to win the last frame before the interval and also took frame 13 with an 83 break.

The Aussie also won frame 14 on the pink but Selby managed to halt the rot by winning the next. Selby also held a 52-9 lead in the 16th frame and after Robertson missed the fourth-last red, Selby was able to secure the match and his third Masters title along with a cheque for £175,000.
