Neil Robertson is through to a second consecutive Masters final after defeating Shaun Murphy 6-2 |
Neil Robertson edged a step closer to defending his Masters
title by defeating Shaun Murphy 6-2 to secure a spot in the final for a second
year running. An 84 break in the first frame put the Australian ahead but
Murphy hit back to win the next. However Selby led at the interval after
knocking in a 132 in frame three before taking the fourth after requiring a snooker.
Murphy cut the deficit by winning frame five but Robertson
made it 4-2 with an 85 clearance following a missed pot from Shaun Murphy
earlier on in the frame. Another error from Murphy allowed Robertson in and he
pounced with effect by knocking in another century, this time a 127 and the
Aussie also took frame eight to guarantee the win.
Meanwhile in the evening session, Mark Selby pulled off
another impressive comeback to defeat Graeme Dott in a nail-biting final frame
decider. Dott sneaked a nervy opening frame on the final black after Selby had
missed it but The Jester from Leicester hit back with a 79 in the next frame.
However, Dott pulled out a two frame advantage by knocking in a 111 break in
frame three and a 75 in the fourth.
The Pocket Dynamo made it 4-1 by winning the next on the
colours but Selby began to pull back the deficit. He firstly won a tight sixth
frame then a 51-minute seventh before drawing level by taking the eighth. Dott
hit back took the ninth on a re-spotted back but Selby won the next to force an
equaliser. Dott had the first chance in the decider but could not make anything
from it as his opponent knocked in a 53 to take control. Dott then missed a
pink when he was let back in the closing stages meaning he required to many
snookers so conceded.
