Ali Carter was the first man to book his place in Sunday’s final of the German Masters with a 6-2 win over Neil Robertson. The Essex man won the opener after a safety battle on the black and doubled his lead by winning the next. Robertson cut the deficit by taking frame three but Carter won the fourth for a 3-1 advantage at the interval.

Runs 42 and 46 handed Carter the fifth frame and The Captain made it 5-1 after capitalising on a safety error from Robbo in the sixth frame. An out-of-sorts Robertson pulled a frame back by compiling a break of 90 in frame seven but Carter secured victory by nicking the eighth after another miss from his opponent.

He will face Marco Fu tomorrow after the man from Hong Kong after he defeated Barry Hawkins in a lengthy match which finished after midnight in the Tempodron. However it was Dartford’s Hawkins that won the opener and also took a drawn-out second frame which lasted 55 minutes. Fu fought back though with breaks of 48 and 68 to draw level at the interval.

Hawkins re-took the lead with a 58 break in the fifth but Fu drew level after another long sixth frame. A terrific 142 total clearance, a complete contrast to how the game had run, gave Fu the lead for the first time in the match but the match was levelled again at 4-4. Fu knocked in another ton, a 110, to go back in front and capitalised from a miss from Hawkins in frame ten to win the match.
