Mark Allen successfully defended his Haikou World Open title after beating Matthew Stevens 10-4 in Sunday’s final. It was a perfect start for the Ulsterman who managed to win all four of the opening frames, including breaks of 52, 93 and 58.

Stevens stopped the rot after the interval, making breaks of 67 and 112 but Allen re-affirmed his two-frame cushion, winning seven and eight including a 100 break in the latter. Stevens pulled one back in the last frame of the session to go into the evening session trailing 6-3.

Allen stretched his advantage back to four again by winning the opener of the concluding session but a 100 break from Stevens saw him make it 7-4. However Allen won the next two before the interval as well as the 14th with a break of 68 to secure the victory and pick up the £85,000 winner’s prize.
