Neil Robertson secured his first ranking event victory since September
2010 when he won the World Open. He defeated Mark Selby 10-6 as revenge for
Selby’s Masters win back in January when Robertson lost out in the final.
Although Selby took the opener, Robertson dominated the first
session, winning the next six frames in a row, including top runs of 50 and 91.
The first session was due to last nine frames but due to the slow-going nature
of the match it was halted after only seven.
Selby launched an assault in the early stages of the
concluding session, winning the next three frames with runs of 81, 125 and 66
to close to 6-4. However, Robbo was unfazed and won the next before the
interval thanks to a run of 110.
He then took a closely fought 12th frame and a 90
in the 13th saw him go within a frame of victory. Despite trailing
9-4, Selby was not ready to throw in the towel and hit 116 and 63 to close
again to 9-6. Robertson seemed to be cruising victory in the 16th
although Selby decided to continue needing five snookers. He got four of them
but later left the green on allowing Robertson to knock in green and brown to
secure the title an £85,000.
