There was another giant-killing on table one as tour newcomer Li Hang defeated Judd Trump 5-2. Li won the first three frames with runs of 62, 54 and 62 and although Trump took the next two, the Chinese player took frames six and seven. He'll now face Xiao Guodong after he defeated 2002 World Champion Peter Ebdon 5-3.
Barry Hawkins avoided embarrassment by winning his match against Fergal O'Brien 5-3. The Irish cueman made century breaks of 117 and 104 but Hawkins finished the stronger, winning three of the last four frames. Steve Davis was knocked out at the hands of Andrew Higginson who won 5-1 whilst David Morris hit top runs of 138 and 91 on his way to beating Gary Wilson.
John Higgins affirmed his recent good vain of form since a change of cue in the close season by beating Vinnie Calabrese. The recent Bulgaria Open champion lost the opening frame of the evening session and was lucky to not lose the next two but his Australian opponent was unable to put away frame clinching chances. Higgins took the next five on the bounce with a top break of 116.
Graeme Dott suffered a shock 5-0 defeat to Jimmy Robertson as the world number 51 62, 56 and 59 as he stormed to victory over the 2006 World Champion. A struggling Mark Williams also progressed into the last 32 but only after a deciding frame win over Liam Highfield. The Newcaste-under-Lyme player hit top breaks of 98 and 84 but Williams was the stronger in the decider and took the match.
Another Welshman struggling for form is Jamie Jones and he suffered defeat after a final frame decider against Liang Wenbo. Matthew Stevens made short work of Lu Ning, who defeated Adam Duffy in the wildcard round yesterday, and beat him 5-1 whilst Ali Carter also made it through with top runs of 54 and 70 as he knocked out London's Alfie Burden.
Despite losing the opening two frames, world number one Neil Robertson defeated another wildcard entry Zhu Yinghui during the morning session, hitting runs of 58, 69 and 83 on course to a 5-2 win. Jack Lisowski's great start to the season continued as he saw off Tian Pengfei 5-0 within 55 minutes. It was the same scoreline as world number 18 Robert Milikins trounce John Astley and the Gloucester man will now face Jimmy White in the last 32.
Scott Donaldson, who has also had an excellent start to the season and recently reached the semi-finals of the Yixing open, beat Bradford amateur player Gareth Green 5-3, making a top break of 102 in the last frame. Ben Woollaston will face Joel Walker in the next round after he beat Chen Zhe 5-2 whilst Gerard Green also progresses after defeating Michael Wasley 5-1.
