It was a high quality start to the match, with the two sharing the first four frames. Fu took one and four with breaks of 98 and 80 whilst Robertson won the other two with runs of 78 and 92. Fu then opened up a two-frame advantage by winning frames five and six. Robbo pulled one back with a run of 57 but Fu finished the session on top, and took their eighth to lead 5-3.
A 57 break allowed Robertson to close to 5-4 but Fu took a big step closer to the prize as he knocked in runs of 58 and 70 toy go 7-4 ahead. Robertson replied winning the next two to trail by just one but Fu remained in control as he took a closely-contested fourteenth on the colours to go within a frame of victory. And he crossed the line with the final’s only century, a 102.
Fu’s win means he’s now provisionally up to number 13 in the world, marking a place back in the top 16 after over 12 months out of it. Robertson’s run means he extends his lead over Mark Selby at the top of the rankings, whom he beat in the semi-finals.
