Judd Trump battled back from 3-0 down to beat Barry Hawkins |
Judd Trump provided a good comeback to fight his way back
from a 3-0 deficit to defeat Barry Hawkins in Wednesday’s evening session. The
22-year-old seemed all out of sorts in the early stages and struggled to put
any significant breaks together allowing Hawkins to cruise into a comfortable
three frame advantage. However Trump halted the slide to go in 3-1 at the
interval and went onto win the next four consecutive frames to book his place
in the last 16 against Mark Allen.
An out-of-form John Higgins also made his way into the last
16 with a 5-2 victory over Jamie Jones whilst fellow Scot Graeme Dott eased his
way past Jin Long, 5-2. The other match in the evening session was a much
closer affair with Ryan Day squeezing past Martin Gould following a final frame
decider.
Earlier on in the day, veteran Steve Davis pushed Ricky Walden right down to the wire with the Chester man also needing a decider to progress. Walden had at one point held a comfortable 4-1 lead but Davis hit back with three on the bounce to force a ninth frame but Walden seized victory with a solid clearance. Another match that was won in a decider was Stuart Bingham’s 5-4 victory over Tom Ford. Neil Robertson beat wildcard round winner Chen Feilong 5-2 whilst in the day’s other game, Stephen Lee defeated Marcus Campbell 5-3.
