Shanghai Masters Day 7

John Higgins secured the Shanghai Masters title after an
incredible final against Judd Trump
John Higgins clinched the 2012 Shanghai Masters after an incredible final with Judd Trump which went right down to the wire, only being obtained after a final frame decider. To sum the match up, it was a game of two halves, with Trump totally dominant in the first session whilst Higgins was superior in the evening session. And what’s more, Higgins compiled a magnificent 147 maximum break in the sixth frame to cap off an incredible snooker showpiece.

However Higgins required something special at that stage as he was trailing Trump 5-0 after losing all five of the opening frames. Trump responded to the 147 by winning the seventh and although Higgins pulled one back by winning frame eight, the Bristolian remained on top by taking the final frame of the session to hold a healthy 7-2 advantage.

But the Wizard of Wishaw showed his magic at the beginning of the evening session by winning an incredible six frames without reply to lead for the first time in the match, 8-7. The Scot knocked in a number of 50+ breaks and simply kept his opponent off the table. Judd reacted to going behind by winning the 16th to tie the match with a fantastic 105 break. However Higgins took the 17th but Trump forced a decider by winning frame eighteen on the colours. The UK Champion got in the balls first but broke down on 36 and Higgins was able to knock in a healthy break leaving Trump needing snookers and when he fouled in attempting to escape from one, a bitterly disappointed Trump conceded the match.
