Championship League Group One

John Higgins is the first man through to the Winner’s Group in Championship League snooker after a 3-1 final win over Ali Carter. An excellent 140 break from Carter, which won him £500 extra for the group’s highest break, put him 1-0 up but Higgins won the next three to progress. Carter had defeated Mark Davis 3-2 in the semis whilst John Higgins had defeated Martin Gould 3-1.

Carter, Davis and Gould will return on Wednesday for Group Two and will be joined by Judd Trump who finished the group in fifth. The two players eliminated from the competition were Shaun Murphy who finished sixth with two wins and Matthew Stevens who won only one of his matches and finished bottom of the group.
